TINKER HILL BECKONS
The 2017 Ulster Quadcross & Sidecarcross Championship reaches it’s halfway point this Saturday with Quad Racing Irelands promotion at their atmospheric Tinker Hill circuit just north of Newry City.
The Sidecarcross Class is led by Neil Campbell & Craig Parmenter, the Lisburn based crew once again having a perfect season remaining unbeaten on their WSP Zabel outfit, however, the shock leader of the British Championship, neighbour Gary Moulds and Steve Kirwin are pushing hard for a ‘home win’ and maybe Tinker Hill will see that happen, but Gary is carrying an injured foot from his victory at Desertmartin which may temper his ambition.
Dean Faulkner & Gordon Ringland have been showing impressive speed this year, so they could threaten the podium on their WSP Zabel, and of course, Emma Moulds and Niki Adair will be a podium threat, although Emma is also nursing an injured foot along with little brother Gary.
The Premier Quad Class has been dominated this year so far by Limavady man Michael McAneney who has an impressive lead after a quiet few seasons, but local Banbridge man David Cowan is in hot pursuit after the Championship he has ‘owned’ for the past few seasons. With talent such as Ricky Toye, Mayobridge man Sean Goss & reigning Champion Justin Reid on the gate, close racing is guaranteed.
Clubman Quads is led by reigning British Junior Champion, Hillsborough teenager Dean Dillon in a great adult debut season, the chasing pack is composed of Connor Canning, Ben Colhoun and Tommy O’Donnell, and this year, the racing has been close in this class.
In the Youth Classes, the biggest capacity class for up to 250cc machines Jack Young leads on 144 points while second is debutant and Loughbrickland native Josh McKnight on 109, while another quad riders son, Jordan Toye is third on 94.
In the 100cc Class, Andrew Black leads on 131 points followed by Mark Mulholland on 113, with Jordan Wright on 93, chased by William McVey & Charlie Williamson on 92 each, an indication of how close the racing is in this highly competitive class.
In the 50cc Automatic Class, Travis Toye is dominating on 147 points while Dollingstown youngster Jacob Glenn is second on 114, with Freddie Williamson third on 111.
