Changes in Age Limits for 125 Open Class
(information updated: 16 February 2004)
Riders can now participate in Youth Motocross Events until the end of the year in which they become 18 years old.
At the age of 15, youth 125 competitors may apply for a one year dual restricted licence (max 125cc 2 stroke/250 4 Stroke). The following year, they can apply for a dual licence. Both licences allow youth riders to participate in either youth or adult motocross events. Youth riders must leave youth motocross the following year.
This means that a youth motocross rider who obtains a dual restricted licence at the age of 15, will not race at youth motocross events after two years (i.e. the year after they are issued with a dual licence).
Riders who do not wish to obtain either a dual restricted or dual licence will ride at youth events under a youth 125 licence until the end of the year of their 18th birthday.
Riders who obtained a dual licence in 2003 may apply for the same type of licence in 2004, although this should be discussed with the Youth and Adult Licence Registrar.
At British Youth Motocross events, there will be two 125cc youth classes (125 Open for 15-16 year olds and 125 Premier for 16 -17 year olds) but this currently does not apply to national youth motocross events (Ulster/Irish championships).
At Irish Youth Motocross events and other events promoted under the jurisdiction of the MCUI (SC), 18 year olds will not be permitted to compete
